Pathways Mentors
Tony Boese
I began working with philosophy during my undergraduate career in the States. While I tried philosophy on a whim, I was immediately hooked and have kept with it ever since. During my academic career within this wonderful study I have gathered two BA Hons, one in Philosophy and a second in Political Science, and am currently pursuing an MLitt at St. Andrews. I have presented at conferences and published in journals ranging from the undergraduate level all the way through to professional events and journals. Outside of philosophy I am very active in Debate and MUN, and have a long history in Martial Arts. A younger me was also a bit of an athlete and a very dedicated musician; however, life has gotten in the way of these two loves of mine.
I have come to find that philosophy is not only good for the mind and interesting in its own right, but is also a handy tool in many other arenas. Thus, while I am happy to talk about and teach philosophy proper, I am also very behind efforts to mix philosophy with other studies (Government, Anthropology, Economics...) and with less academic subjects (sports, pop culture, dating, etc.). In all reality I think philosophy is often too ego-centric and could do with more borrowing from its fellow subjects, and said fellow subjects are frequently too ready to ignore inputs from philosophy.
My areas of expertise centre on Political and Legal Philosophy, as well as Ethics, Moral Philosophy, and Philosophy of Religion. That said, I am also very comfortable helping with Ancient Philosophy, and to a slightly lesser extent with Medieval Philosophy, Logic and Reasoning, Game Theory, Epistemology, and the Philosophy of Love. Moreover, if anyone out there is seeking to learn philosophy for use with debate, then look no further!
