Questioning Philosophy

From original introduction:

"How do philosophers work? The aim of these pages is to provide an example of an on-going philosophical investigation, one in which every visitor to the web site can participate. Pages will be added to my note book every day — or as often as I can manage — and I shall do my best to respond to points raised in the Comments Page.

"I have no idea how this is going to work out. The idea of instantly publishing one's thoughts (no revisions afterwards!) would strike many academic philosophers as a quite appalling prospect. But it is what teachers do every day. Like anyone who strives to teach well, I am keen to receive feedback. I want to know what you think.

"There is one further, perhaps more selfish motivation. As an academic philosopher myself, I discovered long ago that I was unable to produce work purely for an audience of other academic philosophers. For me, philosophy is a teaching process: teaching myself at the same time as I teach others."
